Position Overview
Carlson Company is seeking machinists that are interested in joining a dynamic, growing organization. We are seeking a skilled machinist with emphasis on milling capabilities working on complex parts.
Essential Job Functions
- Lifts work pieces manually or with hoist, and positions and secures it on machine table. Plan and layout setup operations, and determine sequence of operations.
- Moves machine controls to feed tools into work piece, and engages automatic feed.
- Observes machine operations, and verifies conformance of work piece to specifications, using fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
- Changes work cutting tools, using wrenches.
- Moves controls to adjust cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cut.
- May sharpen cutting tools, using bench grinder.
- May perform minor assembly, such as fastening parts with nuts, bolts, and screws, using power tools and hand tools.
- Perform other job-related duties and assigned.
- Provide support to Production personnel
- Perform maintenance, cleaning and safety checks on tools and cord sets when they are checked in
- Perform scheduled maintenance and minor repairs on all tools
- Ensure that all tools sets are complete prior to the next job
- Recommend major repairs and replacement by submitting work order requests to Maintenance
- Proactively look for ways to reduce costs in areas of responsibility
- Maintain work area in a safe, clean and orderly fashion throughout and at the end of shift
- Maintain shop tool and support materials stock at work station

Educational and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of 2 – 5 years of machining experience and/or training.
- Forklift certified preferred
- Experience in operating lifting devices such as jib or overhead cranes a plus
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Ability and willingness to perform/comply with following:
- Willing and able to raise and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Willing and able to walk, stand, stoop, sit and carry material on a daily basis on even and uneven terrain.
- Willing and able to stand for long periods of time.
- Willing and able to work outside in harsh weather conditions to retrieve material and/or in manufacturing/warehouse environment with varying temperatures.
- Willing to work alone a high percentage of the time.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Willing and able to work unscheduled overtime.
- Willing to work in a manufacturing environment where noise levels can be high (hearing protection available).
